Plan Your Christmas Getaway at Low Moor Cottages

Places to stay, Things to do

2 minutes well spent

Dreaming of a cosy coastal Christmas? Base yourself at Low Moor Cottages, just outside Scalby on the Yorkshire Coast, within the North York Moors National Park and only a short drive to Scarborough’s beaches and festive attractions.

Why Low Moor Cottages are Perfect at Christmas

  • Warm, winter‑ready homes: Several cottages feature underfloor heating (full throughout in Barn Owl Cottage; ground‑floor in others) with central heating included, ideal after bracing beach walks or evenings at the panto.
  • Flexible festive dates: Enjoy any day arrivals (subject to availability), so you can line up your stay with specific shows, markets and light trails.
  • Space for everyone: From intimate boltholes for two (Badger Cottage, The Old Dairy) to family‑sized options (Wren & Barn Owl sleeps 4; Stable Cottage sleeps 6; Low Moor Lodge sleeps 3), there’s a match for couples, small families and multi‑gen gatherings.
  • Properly equipped kitchens: Modern, well-equipped kitchens and dining spaces make Christmas lunch a breeze, think roomy kitchen/diners and easy access to the garden for a breath of fresh air.
  • Family‑friendly touches: Cots and highchairs are available at no extra cost in multiple cottages.
  • Walks from the door and secure bike storage: Step straight out to country paths and keep bikes safe in on‑site storage if you’re planning winter rides.
  • Stay connected and park with ease: Free Wi‑Fi and private parking come as standard.
  • Close to everything, yet wonderfully quiet: You’re about 10 minutes’ drive to North Bay and around 3 miles to Scarborough, so festive fun is near, but you’ll return to calm countryside after.

Need‑to‑know: Low Moor Cottages are pet‑free and non‑smoking inside – handy for guests with allergies.

Christmas in Scarborough: What’s On

Scarborough goes big on sparkle, lights, and family shows from mid‑November through New Year. Here are the highlights to help you plan dates:

Scarborough Lights (14 Nov – 21 Dec)

A town‑wide celebration of illuminations and installations. Don’t miss:

  • LED Light Tunnel on Westborough (free)
  • “Ships Ahoy!” – the harbour’s festooned boats and lighthouse
  • Scarborough Castle illuminated nightly
  • A drone display at Scarborough Castle (19–23 Nov, ticketed)

Pantomime at the Spa: Beauty & The Beast (6 Dec – 1 Jan)

Big‑hearted family panto at Scarborough Spa, running right through the holidays with multiple matinees and evening performances, including Christmas Eve and Boxing Day shows.

NYMR Santa Express (late Nov & Dec)

About a short drive inland, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Santa Express runs from 29–30 Nov; 6–7, 13–14, and 20–24 Dec, a classic steam‑train visit from Father Christmas. Pre‑book as it sells fast.

Practical Tips For a Smooth Christmas Stay

  • Book early for pantos, the drone show, and Santa trains – December dates do sell out
  • Layer up for the coast, the sea air is crisp (and glorious) in winter
  • Driving & parking: You’ll have private parking at your cottage, and Scarborough’s venues are a short drive away
  • For families: Ask for cot/highchair when you book
