The Harbour Bar
The story behind The Harbour Bar is definitely an interesting one – The Alonzi family have been making and selling ice cream in Scarborough since the last century. It all started with them running a small bar on Eastborough, where they had a small fleet of ice cream barrows and stalls on the beach, charging a penny a portion near the Lifeboat House and a tuppence a portion at the spa end. At the end of the Second World War, the Harbour Bar was born, they opened their doors on the August Bank Holiday Saturday in 1945 and they sold out of everything in two hours.
Fast forward to today and thy are the most famous ice cream parlour for miles. From traditional ice cream cones, to ice cream sundaes, waffles, shakes and more, the Harbour Bar can’t be missed!

Baxters of Scarborough
Baxters of Scarborough is a family run eatery and is a personal favourite of ours! They offer delicious roast meat baguettes and roast dinners. The staff at Baxters of Scarborough are friendly and cheerful, adding to the welcoming atmosphere when visiting. They offer both dine in and takeouts, which is great if you are wanting something quick and easy.

At Low Moor Cottages, we take pride in recommending places that we genuinely trust. Every restaurant on this list has been tried and tested by either ourselves or regular returning guests, and none are national chains. These are well-established, independent, family-run businesses that have been part of Scarborough for many years. Supporting local enterprises is something we strongly believe in at Low Moor Cottages, and we hope our guests enjoy experiencing the same authentic, community-led food scene that keeps people coming back year after year.
