Only 3 miles away from Low Moor Holiday Cottages is the country’s oldest holiday resort – Scarborough – with its twin bays dominated by the castle and headland. Boasting fantastic award winning beaches Scarborough is a must for those families wishing to enjoy the delights of a traditional seaside holiday. For those wanting entertainment, The Open Air Theatre re-opened in 2010 by HRH The Queen is attracting many famous artists at it’s massive 6 500 capacity seated arena. The Theatre in the Round is very popular and is where Alan Ayckbourn’s plays receive their world premieres. If it's state of the art water slides you want then the Alpamare Water Park will keep any adventurous family amused and is situated on the North Side adjacent to the beautiful Peasholm Park. Dalby Forest is on your doorstep with the famous ‘Go Ape’ and miles of mountain bike tracks. A super visitors centre has lots of events going on all year round and a fabulous play area with ample barbeques makes Dalby Forest a full day out.
Further down the coast is the traditional fishing town of Filey, sheltered by the Brigg and Flamborough Head with its world renowned bird sanctuary.
Continue on to Bridlington - a seaside resort without hills - and Hornsea with bargains galore at the Freeport.
Heading north from your cottage is the route of the old Scarborough to Whitby railway offering some sensational vistas as it bypasses quiet coastal villages clinging to the cliffs.
Whitby is the home of Captain Cook and Dracula and is packed with all manner of history about the famous residents. Jet jewellery and smoked kippers are famous exports but you will regret leaving without visiting the enchanting ruined abbey, if you can manage the 199 steps up to the landmark (don't worry there is a bus to take you there from the town if you fancy a rest!)
The cliffs north of Whitby are studded with fossils and offer a beachcombing delight. Low Moor Holiday Cottages are in the North York Moors National Park and inland excursions take you to the Roman Road at Wheeldale and Goathland, more commonly known as Aidensfield.
You can catch a steam train through Heartbeat Country from Pickering or Grosmont or explore stately homes such as Castle Howard and Sledmere.
Continue east to Thirsk and the Yorkshire Dales made famous by James Herriott, stopping off in Kilburn to see Mousie Thompson's famous wood carving workshop and the village's giant white horse.
Drive South to sample the delights at the historic city of York. Only 55 minutes from your countryside holiday base is this thriving and bustling city shrouded by it’s own Roman Walls. Many museums are all to explore and the National Railway Museum is not to be missed. There are big brand stores and unique independent shops alike – therefore a real treat for serious shoppers ! The multi screen cinema and super swimming pool with water slides and chutes makes York a good day out for all the family to enjoy.
